Sinema dünyasının en prestijli ödülü olarak görülen Oskarlar, her zaman kazananın yüzünü güldürmüyor. Akademi üyelerinin ‘En İyi Film’ ödülünü verdiği filmlerin büyük bölümü gişede yapımcısını hayal kırıklığına uğratıyor.
İnternet Film Veri Tabanı (IMDB)’nda yer alan bilgilere göre geçen sene ‘En İyi Film Oskarı’nı alan Zoraki Kral (The King's Speech) tüm dünyada 374 milyon dolar hasılat elde etti. Kathryn Bigelow’ın 2009’da sürpriz şekilde 6 dalda Oskar alan Ölümcül Tuzak ( The Hurt Locker)'ı ise box office’te 12 milyon dolarda kaldı. Dannny Boyle’un 81’inci Oskar’da 8 ödül alarak damgasını vuran Milyoner (Slumdog Millionaire) filmi ise 141 milyon dolarlık iş yapabildi. Ünlü yönetmen Woody Allen’in en iyi yapımları arasında gösterilen 1977 tarihli 4 Oskarlı Annie Hall de yapımcısına sadece 38 milyon dolar kazandırabildi.
Coen Kardeşler’in 4 Oskarlı sıra dışı filmi İhtiyarlara Yer Yok (No Country for Old Men) 74 milyon dolar; Paul Hagies’in paralel kurgusuyla dikkat çeken ve 78’inci Oskar Ödülleri töreninde 3 Oskar alan Çarpışma (Crash) filmi ise 98 milyon dolar hâsılat elde edebildi.
